Additional info: Frank and Charles Duryea were the first Americans to attempt to build and sell automobiles for profit. In 1896, they made and sold 13 gasoline-powered vehicles. After an argument, Frank joined the Stevens Arms and Tool Company, which ultimately produced the Stevens Duryea. Their large touring cars often had rear seats that were adjustable, several inches up and down and fore and aft. The company stopped assembly in 1915 and was sold to Westinghouse which needed their facilities for war work.
