With great regret, Seal Cove Auto announces that its founder, Richard C. Paine, Jr., died on August 3, 2007. Richard Paine was an extraordinarily gifted visionary, with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things automotive, which he used to assemble the large and unique collection now on display at the Seal Cove Auto Museum. What makes this achievement all the more remarkable is the fact that he did so in his own shy and quiet way, shunning the spotlight and relishing his own privacy. It was Mr. Paine's wish that upon his death, some of his remarkable collection be sold to provide a permanent endowment so that generations to come could enjoy his core collection.
That sale will take place at Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine on September 26 and 27, 2008. The no-reserve auction will be conducted by Bonhams. For further information, please click on the links below.
A few of the vehicles to be sold are now on display at Owls Head, and the remainder at the Seal Cove Auto Museum, which will remain open as usual all summer.
